Mikayla Zayas
CMSA & MSA Competitor & Trainer
Mikayla “Mikey” Zayas competes in the sport of Cowboy
Mounted Shooting where her desire to go fast is
surpassed only by her love for horses. Mikayla excels in
Mounted Shooting as well as competing at the state level
for her school track team. As a maturing young lady,
Mikayla believes that academics should come first which
is why she continues to make straight A’s and continues
to juggle her extracurricular activities.
Not having an equestrian background, Mikayla knew that
she loved horses but wasn’t sure if she was “cut out” to
be an accomplished horse person. But as persistent
teenagers do, she followed her heart. Mikayla became a
sponge for knowledge every time she was around other
horse people. She quickly realized that while not
everything she heard would work for her, she was eager
to take it all in. She used all the knowledge she gained
and quickly became a top competitor in the sport of
Mounted Shooting. As a result, Mikayla has gone from a
novice rider to a confident competitive rider in few
short years.
Mikayla hopes to someday become an equine veterinarian
and hopes to put herself through college on academic
scholarships and money she’ll make while training a few
horses for Mounted Shooting competition.
Look for Mikayla at the next Major Shooting event and
don’t forget to say hello.
